Moon on horizon at night with zodiacal light in China. Evening twilight fading to darkness above Dashanbao, Yunnan, China. The setting crescent Moon on the horizon marks the cone of zodiacal light. Mercury is also visible on the horizon at lower left of the Moon. Neptune is also present in the same region of the sky, in what is known as a conjunction, but too faint to be seen. Zodiacal light is sunlight reflected from dust particles orbiting in the plane of the solar system. From Earth it is seen as a cone of light along the ecliptic, the orbital path of the Sun, Moon and planets in the sky. Photographed on 1 February 2014. | |
