Building the Forth Bridge in Scotland. 19th-century illustration of the construction and transport (on railways) of part of the Forth Bridge. This rail bridge was constructed from 1882, and was completed in 1890. It spans 2528 metres across the estuary of the River Forth at Queensferry, Scotland. It has a cantilever design, with steel arches allowing sailing ships to pass beneath it. It was designed by engineers Sir John Fowler, Sir Benjamin Baker and Sir William Arrol.
