Polysilazane. Coloured scanning electron microscope (SEM) of a surface coated with polysilazane. Polysilazane is an inorganic polymer that dissolves in organic solvents. It is enriched with different organic components and so is highly flexible, with properties such as heat resistance, purity, high transparency and hardness at relatively low temperatures. It can also be applied as an extremely flat surface. These properties make it suitable as an insulation and coating material. First manufactured successfully in 1994, it is now hugely important in the electronics, automobile and construction industries. Magnification: x460 when printed 10 centimetres wide. | |
