Plombage tuberculosis treatment. X-ray of the lungs of a patient who was previously treated for tuberculosis using the technique known as plombage. This treatment was for cavitary tuberculosis of the upper lobe of the lung, and involved inserting an inert material into the chest to make the diseased lung lobes collapse. This is visible as the dark circles at upper right. This treatment (practised from around the 1930s to the 1950s) was discontinued after the development of more effective anti-tuberculosis drug therapies. | |
