Slipped capital femoral epiphysis. Frontal X-ray of a patient's hip bones, showing a left side (at right) slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE). SCFE is an unusual disorder of the thigh bone (femur) when the ball at the head of the femur slips where it articulates with the hip bone. The slippage is seen at centre right. This condition leads to one leg being shorter than the other, causing the patient to walk with a limp. For a view with the legs not splayed, see image C038/6678. | |
