Galaxy NGC 1052-DF2, Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image. This galaxy is about 65 million light years from Earth, in the constellation Cetus. It is extremely diffuse, with distant galaxies visible behind it. Based on the colours of its globular clusters, the galaxy is thought to be about 10 billion years old. It is also missing most of its dark matter. How the galaxy formed is currently a mystery to the astronomers studying it. This image was obtained on 16 November 2017 using the HST's Advanced Camera for Surveys instrument. | |
