CMP missing people forensics laboratory. Forensic identification of skeletal remains being carried out as part of the work of the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP). Excavated from mass graves on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, these are the remains of victims of the Cypriot intercommunal violence of 1963-4 and the Turkish invasion of 1974. Cyprus is currently disputed between Greece and Turkey. This laboratory is in the zone occupied by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus. There are 2003 missing people, from both Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities. Once the body has been identified and the family notified, an official burial can take place. Photographed in 2012. | |
