Mount Etna, on the Italian island of Sicily, currently reaches an elevation of over 3300 metres. It is the largest active volcano in Europe and many eruptions have been observed here throughout history. This depiction is titled (in Latin): 'Typus Montis Aetnae', with the year given as 1637.
