Astronomers have found a very distant ice-giant planet (somewhat like Uranus or Neptune) some 25, 000 light-years from the Solar System in the constellation of Sagittarius. The planet is called OGLE-2008-BLG-092LAb, or 092LAb for short. The planet orbits its star (one of a binary system), at a distance of 19 astronomical units – very close to Uranus’ distance from the Sun. However, 092LAb is much more massive than Uranus, by around a factor of four. This image imagines a view of the planet with a hypothetical moon in attendance. |
