The fleshy hull of the walnut contains dark dyes that can be used as ink and will stain skin. Once stained, it remains in the skin for long period of time. The Common walnut (Juglans regia) originated in the Middle East and is not a true nut but a highly nutritious edible seed. The famous Perigord walnuts are grown in groves in the loops of the Dordogne river where archeological evidence indicates that they have formed part of the diet of the region for 17000 years. Photographed in Perigord, France. | |
