Pavel Yablochkov (1847-1894). 1867 illustration of the Russian engineer and inventor Pavel Nikolayevich Yablochkov. Yablochkov is best known as the inventor of the Yablochkov candle (a type of electric carbon arc lamp) and the transformer. He developed his inventions in a workshop in Moscow, Russia. In the late 1870s he went to Paris to demonstrate his design for an electric carbon arc lamp. This included having his lights installed as part of the Paris Exposition of 1878. He also worked on improving methods of generating electricity, and on storing electrical power. | |
