| Light micrograph of a section through a computer's printed circuit board (PCB) with a surface mounted ceramic capacitor. A small part of a PCB was embedded in light curing resin and then ground and diamond polished. The image shows the basic epoxy material of the PCB with glass reinforcement filaments in linen weave (blue) with three copper layers of the multilayer. A ceramic capacitor in cross section is at right, showing its interior composition with several thin metal plates separated by ceramic material. Microscopic contrast technique: Incident brightfield combined with UV excitation fluorescence. Magnification 100x when printed 10 centimetres wide. | |
