Albrecht Durer (1471-1528). 1869 illustration of the German artist Albrecht (Albert) Durer. Born in Nuremburg, Germany, Durer travelled to and brought new ideas back from Italy in 1494 and 1505. He did much to introduce the Renaissance to northern Europe. His skilful use of perspective and mathematical proportions made him one of the outstanding artistic figures of the early 16th century. He produced many portraits, woodcuts, engravings and watercolours and is best known for his work, 'Four books on Human Proportions', which was published posthumously in 1528. | |
