These drawings by Leonardo da Vinci indicate not only his understanding of the anatomy and proportions of animals but also his interest in animal positions and movements. They show more than twenty cats stretching, grooming, sleeping, sitting, prowling and fighting. For comparative anatomy he included seven drawings of a prowling or crouching lioness. He made up his version of a dragon from parts of a dog, cat and a water tortoise. | |
