Moropus, illustration. This extinct prehistoric mammal is an ungulate that is related to the horse, rhinoceros and tapir. It lived from 23 to 13 million years ago, during the Early Miocene. It was a chalicothere, meaning it had claws rather than hooves. It was a large herbivorous browser, standing around 2.4 metres high at the shoulders. Its fossils are found in North America. | |
