Coryphodon, illustration. This extinct prehistoric mammal is an example of a pantodont, the evolution of the early large mammalian browsers. Reaching a body length of around 2.5 metres, it lived from 57 to 46 million years ago, from the Late Palaeocene to the Middle Eocene. It had a ssemi-aquatic lifestyle (similar to the modern hippopotamus). Its fossils have been found in North America. | |
