Pterygium growths in the corners of a 33 year old male patient's eyes. A pterygium is a benign (non-cancerous) growth of the conjunctiva, the membrane covering the front of the eye. As here, it often grows inwards from the nasal side of the nose. If it reaches the cornea, at the centre of the eye, it will need to be surgically removed. | |
