Beached long-finned pilot whales (Globicephala melas), with exposed intestines and other internal organs. The long-finned pilot whale is found in the North Atlantic and in temperate waters of the Southern Hemisphere. It is actually a large dolphin, and can be around 7 metres in length. This beaching was part of a mass stranding of hundreds of pilot whales over several days on Farwell Spit, New Zealand. Photographed on 12 February 2017. | |
