MODEL RELEASED. Lung function testing. Patient exhaling hard into a small handheld spirometer, part of a type of test to assess the functioning of the lungs. The test is taking place at a general practice (GP) clinic. The spirometer (also called a peak flow meter) measures the amount and speed of air that is exhaled. Spirometry is an important tool used for assessing conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, and chronic obstructive airway diseases (COAD) such as bronchitis and emphysema, also collectively known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
