Citrine is a variety of the mineral Quartz (SiO2), ranging in color from pale to golden yellow, honey or almost brown and more or less translucent. The name refers to the colour of citron fruits. Like quartz, citrine is of trigonal or hexagonal crystal class and often occurs in a crystal habitat of six-sided prisms terminating in a pointed pyramid, as displayed in this sample.
