Aorta and re-implanted kidney. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) angiogram of the aorta (main body artery) and a re-implanted right kidney (lower left) in a 66-year-old man with severe atherosclerosis. This condition, where the artery walls harden and calcify with atheroma deposits (many seen here), has caused many of the arteries to become blocked. One of the kidneys has been reattached to the aorta to maintain its blood supply. Surgery has also been carried out to repair the arteries where the aorta divides into the iliac arteries leading to the legs. | |
