Stroke. Axial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan through the brain of a 54-year-old woman who has had a stroke that has caused partial left-side hemiplegia (paralysis of one side of the body). This scan was performed 2 hours after the stroke. The damaged area of the brain is at upper left and centre left, on the right-hand side of the brain. This stroke (also called a cerebrovascular accident, CVA) is due to reduced blood supply (ischaemia), probably due to a blockage of an artery. This is a T2 sequence MRI, with inversion used to highlight the tissues being examined. | |
