Perionyx excavatus is a composting worm in the earthworm family Megascolecidae. It is a commercially produced earthworm used for everyday composting. This species is promoted for its ability to create fine worm castings quickly. It is very popular in North America for composting food product waste. This species belongs to the Perionyx genus which may have its origins in the Himalayan mountains. This species is suited for vermicomposting in tropical and subtropical regions.
