Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Potato leafhopper (Empoasca fabae). The adult potato leafhopper is winged, pale green, wedge-shaped insect about 3 millimetres long. The pale green to yellow nymphs, are wingless and smaller than the adults. Both stages feed on the undersides of leaves. They are an agricultural pest especially on potato and snapbean plants. In the upper Midwest United States they are serious alfalfa pests. Magnification: x5 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres. | |
