Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the basidiomycetous yeast with sterigmata (Fellomyces sp.). A conidiogenus mother cell yeast produces a thin tubular sterigma, at the end of which an asexual conidium differentiates. While the sterigma remains attached to the mother cell the condium separates, grows and gives rise to a new conidiogenus cell. The genus Fellomyces contains three primary species: Fellomyces fuzhouensis, Fellomyces penicillatus, and Fellomyces polyborus . Fellomyces very similar to the genus Sterigmatomyces . Magnification: x1, 400 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres. | |
