Florence Rena Sabin (1871-1953), US medical scientist. Sabin obtained her first degree from Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, USA, in 1893. Sabin studied and taught anatomy and histology. Pioneering women-in-science firsts she achieved were a full professorship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (1917), and the first woman elected to the National Academy of Sciences (1924). From 1925 she worked at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research in New York City, USA. She also worked on health reforms in Colorado. In 1951, she was presented with the prestigious Lasker Award. Photographed at Johns Hopkins. | |
