Windsor Martyrs burnt at the stake. Reproduction of an engraving by the English historian John Foxe (1516/17-1587) of Anthony Pearson, Henry Filmer and Robert Testwood being burnt at the stake in front of Windsor Castle, UK. Pearson, Filmer and Testwood were three 16th Century English Protestant Christians during the reign of Henry VIII, who were executed based on evidence by William Simonds, the Catholic former Mayor of Windsor, who bore a grudge against them. Original illustration appeared in Foxe's 'Actes and Monuments (1684), popularly known as Foxe's Book of Martyrs. | |
