Tesla bladeless turbine. Illustration of the bladeless turbine developed from 1906 by Serb-US physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (1856-1943). This illustration shows an advert for the device from the period between 1915 and 1925 when Tesla occupied offices at 8 West 40th Street, New York, USA. Engineering difficulties meant that the turbine never achieved its stated efficiencies and it failed to be developed into a practical device. Tesla carried out research that led to key advances in areas such as alternating current power generation and transmission. The SI unit of magnetic flux density is named in his honour. | |
