Tesla demonstrating artificial daylight. Close-up of Serb-US physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) holding a science journal that has been photographed under his artificial lighting system. Tesla experimented several times with new arc lamp methods of electrical lighting, competing with the systems invented by Thomas Edison. Here, he is holding a copy of 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society', open to a page of an 1851 article on magnetism by Michael Faraday (Experimental Researches in Electricity; Twenty-Eighth Series), published in 1852. Tesla carried out research that led to key advances in areas such as alternating current power generation and transmission. The SI unit of magnetic flux density is named in his honour. | |
