Tesla's wireless energy transmission. Early conical alternator with sparks being produced (upper centre), part of Tesla's 1894 experiments attempting to transmit electrical energy without wires. Serb-US physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) attempted to develop this technology from the 1890s. His wireless transmission experiments were intended to compete with the system invented by Marconi. However, Tesla was unable to find sufficient investment and funds, and the project was abandoned in the early 1900s. As well as cone-shaped devices, he also used spiral coils. This conical device was part of the development of Tesla's magnifying transmitter. | |
