Porcine stress syndrome research. Researchers using an antibody to evaluate levels of dystrophin proteins in heart tissue taken from a family of normal pigs and those affected by porcine stress syndrome. Porcine stress syndrome (PSS), or malignant hyperthermia is an inherited disorder that causes huge calcium influx, muscle contracture and an increase in metabolism. Animals affected with porcine stress syndrome have reduced amounts of dystrophin in their heart and muscle tissue. | |
