Bird Stein Gans (1868-1944) was a US educator involved in parent education. Born in Pennsylvania, she studied at Columbia University and New York University. With several other women, she founded the Society for the Study of Child Nature in 1888. These women believed that parenting was a learned skill rather than an instinctual one. They believed that scientific knowledge could help provide a sound basis for rearing children, studying child nature from psychological, ethical, and physical perspectives. | |
