Star cluster Terzan 5, composite image. Combined optical and infrared image of the star cluster Terzan 5. This star cluster, located in the Milky Way's galactic bulge, has an unusual mix of stars. It is thought that it is one of the galactic bulge's primordial building blocks, a relic of the very early days of the Milky Way. Terzan 5 is around 19, 000 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Sagittarius. Image data obtained by the ACS (Advanced Camera for Surveys) and WFC3 (Wide Field Camera 3) instruments on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Image published in 2016. | |
