Uranus in 1910s, stereoscopic card. These are paired stereoscopic images which provide a 3D image (stereogram) when viewed side-by-side. Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun. Two of its moons are visible here: Oberon and Titania. At the time of this observation, Uranus was 2.8 billion kilometres from the Earth. Closer and more detailed observations of Uranus were not made until Voyager 2 visited the planet in 1986. Image obtained by US astronomer Edwin Hubble (1889-1953) with the 24-inch reflecting telescope of the Yerkes Observatory, Chicago, USA. Published by the Keystone View Company. | |
