Tesla incandescent lamp and coil. Glow from an incandescent lamp being powered by electrical current from a Tesla coil. The apparatus was designed by Serb-US physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), and constructed at his laboratory in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. Tesla operated this laboratory from 1899. The coil named after him is a type of resonant transformer that is used to produce high-voltage, low-current, high-frequency alternating current electricity. Tesla emigrated to the USA in 1884. His research led to key advances in areas such as alternating current power generation and transmission. The SI unit of magnetic flux density is named in his honour. | |
