A bronze bust of the Chinese astronomer Guo Shoujing (1231-1316) at the Beijing Ancient Observatory, an astronomical observatory that dates from the 1400s. According to an accompanying plaque, he devised a number of astronomical instruments, established several observatories and formulated the Shoushi Calendar which determined the year to be 365.2425 days. | |
