The Wodaabe people are mainly nomadic herders and traders. They rely heavily on their Zebu cattle, a long-horned breed that can withstand hot climates. The cattle provide milk products that, along with cereal obtained through trading, are the basis of their diet. During the rainy season, when the cattle are healthier, they are used for milk and milk products such as yoghurt. During the dry season, milk production is lowest and grain prices are highest forcing some Wodaabe to sell their cattle and resort to herding cattle for their sedentary neighbours.
