Brain cancer radiotherapy. Nurse preparing a 70-year-old woman with a malignant brain tumour (cancer) who is undergoing radiotherapy with a linear accelerator X-ray machine in a hospital. The patient has been positioned below a linear accelerator (LINAC) that emits high-energy X-ray radiation that is focused on the tumour site, and used to disrupt and kill the cancer cells. The patient is wearing a rigid radiotherapy mask that is custom-made to hold the patient's head in position while the treatment is carried out.
