Thrombus in carotid artery. The patient has had cerebrovascular complications, including aphasia (speech and language impairment) and partially regressive right hemiplegia (paralysis of one side of the body). The thrombus (an abnormal blood clot) has formed in a region known as the carotid bulb. Clots such as this can cut off the blood supply to the brain and cause brain damage and death, including conditions such as a stroke (cerebrovascular accident, CVA), as here.
