Cromwell Varley, FRSA (6 April 1828 - 2 September 1883). 1868 illustration of the English engineer Cromwell Fleetwood Varley. Varley is best known for his part in the development of the electric telegraph and the transatlantic telegraph cable. He devised many techniques and instruments for fault-finding and for improving the performance of the telegraph. He also took an interest in the claims of parapsychology and spiritualism. | |
