Bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) in flight. This large eagle is found throughout North America, generally living close to water. It feeds mainly on fish, water birds and carrion, and can reach a length of around 75 centimetres. Despite its name it is not actually bald: its head is covered with white feathers. The bald eagle is the national symbol of the United States of America. Photographed in Minnesota, USA. | |
