Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Horned treehopper (Campylenchia sp.). The genus Campylenchia is known as the horned treehopper in the family Membracidae. Treehoppers are also called thorn bugs and are closely related to cicadas and leafhoppers. They are found throughout the world except Antarctica. Treehoppers pierce plant stems with their beaks and feed upon sap and water. They have a unique pronotum (helmet) that resembles a thorn to aid in camouflage.
