Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Argentine ant (Linepithema humile, formerly Iridomyrmex humilis). This species, which is native to Argentina and Brazil, was probably introduced in the United States via coffee shipments and has become an invasive species. The colony workers are very aggressive and usually eliminate other ant species and some other insects in their colony area. They can live off of most any type of food.
