Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Pleurostomophora richardsiae (previously known as Phialophora richardsiae), which has been isolated from wood, ground wood pulp, sewage and soil in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. It also colonizes, survives and causes lesions in grapevines and could therefore be regarded as a potential pathogen. Species of the Pleurostomophora cluster can be distinguished from the true Phialophora species by their mostly slender, subcylindrical phialides, flaring or inconspicuous, but not long collarettes and cylindrical to allantoid conidia. Magnification: x120 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres. |
