Serology test demonstration, 1950s. US bacteriologist David Buell Lackman (1911-1990, centre) demonstrating a serology test to two visiting researchers: Slovenian virologist Jelka Vesenjak (1913-1992, left) from Yugoslavia, and Leif Sorum (right) from Norway. Lackman spent most of his career working here at the Rocky Mountain Laboratory, Hamilton, Montana, USA, starting in 1946. His research centred on encephalitis and other diseases caused by arboviruses. Serology tests are carried out on serum (a component of the blood) and other bodily fluids to detect antibodies and diagnose diseases. Photographed in 1952. | |
