Lentigo. Close-up of the skin of a patient showing a liver spot or lentigo. The ruler beside it measures centimetres. Liver spots are usually coloured brown, this one is almost black, they are flat, freckle-like spots caused by excess development of the skin pigment melanin. They become more common with age and are sometimes known as age spots; they are common in people exposed to a lot of sun. Liver spots are normally harmless but can occasionally turn into a slow- growing form of skin cancer. | |
