ALPHA experiment at CERN. Researchers for the ALPHA experiment at work in CERN, the European particle physics laboratory. ALPHA (the Antihydrogen Laser Physics Apparatus) is an experiment involving the Antiproton Decelerator (AD). It is designed to trap neutral antihydrogen in a magnetic trap. The antihydrogen is produced by mixing positrons with antiprotons from the Antiproton Decelerator. At CERN, particles are accelerated and collided at high speeds, producing new particles that are examined with large detectors. Many of the key discoveries in particle physics have been made at CERN.
