Samuel Colville Lind (1879-1965), US chemist. Lind studied chemistry and then worked on worked on chemical kinetics in Leipzig, Germany (1904-1905). A period at the University of Michigan (1905-1913) included spells in Europe in Paris and Vienna. At the US Bureau of Mines (1913-1925) he worked on the extraction of radium from uranium deposits. Most of his career was as head of chemistry at the University of Minnesota (1926-1947). After retirement, he worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory on nuclear fuels. He was awarded the American Chemical Society's Priestley Medal in 1952. Photographed on 8 July 1923. | |
