Sun bear (Ursus malayanus) in a tree. The sun bear is found in lowland tropical rainforests in South- East Asia, including Malaysia. It is the smallest of the world's bears,at less than 1 metre in length. It is omnivorous, eating vegetation and small mammals and birds,as well as termites. It is thought to use its long claws and tongue to dig termites from their nests. The sun bear is a good tree climber, and is thought to sleep in trees. Its numbers in the wild are not known, and it is thought that it is endangered by the loss of its habitat. Photographed in Asia | |
