Golden lion tamarin. Golden lion tamarin,or marmoset (Leontopithecus rosalia) clinging to a tree. This tamarin takes its name from the "mane" of hair around its head, said to resemble that of a lion. They inhabit forests on the foothills of coastal mountains in eastern South America. They live in small groups in the treetops, and are adept at moving through the thin branches. Golden lion tamarins are omnivorous, eating fruits as well as insects, lizards and small birds. They may reach a length of around 50 centimetres, and this can be almost doubled by their tail | |
